Who ARE You?
No, that’s not me. It’s one of my lovely ladies styled for an alternative bridal show a few years ago. She’s one of my favorite heads and I think this is my favorite picture of my work. It really captures what I’m about I think. But this isn’t about the picture, it’s about me.
My name is Mo and I’m a hair stylist in Philadelphia, PA. I went to the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute in West Philly, but I’ve been doing hair for as long as I can remember. For example the girl who lived down the street from me growing up freaking hated me because I would always make her hang out with me so I could twist her hair all up in about a million butterfly clips and cover her in glitter. Some people don’t know how good they have it.
But that led to doing hair for school dances in high school and cuts and color for my braver friends. I’ve done a lot of other things, but doing hair is my favorite. It only took me two years locked in a Temple University dorm room coloring and cutting my own hair to realize that I could probably be somewhere else and in class getting credit for doing it.
So now I live in South Philly and work at Mockingbird Hair Salon. I work with L’Oreal color and have trained with Vidal Sassoon, Logics, Lakme, Label.M, Davines and Wella/Nioxin. I really can’t say enough good things about Label.M. My favorite part of doing hair is styling.
I have a dog named Sloth who is covered in bleach spots (not on purpose, she’s just very clingy.) And I have a dog named Ca$h Money who is not covered in bleach spots… yet.
I am also in band called Rainbow Destroyer. You should check us out, we’re a horror show.
